The Story of Hoi Fa Siu Lum
Blossoming Across the Seas
Our name is our lineage, our philosophy, and our promise. Hoi Fa Siu Lum (海花少林) translates to "The Shaolin Blossom Across the Seas." To understand our school, one must look back centuries to the burning of the Southern Shaolin Temple.
When the temple was destroyed, the surviving masters fled into the southern provinces of China. They hid in plain sight, often traveling on Red Junk opera boats. They chose not to let their sacred art die in the ashes. Instead, they adapted. They streamlined their movements for close-quarters combat, creating the powerful, explosive, and efficient Southern Kung Fu styles we practice today.
Like the seeds of a resilient winter flower blown by the wind, these masters crossed oceans (Hoi). Wherever they landed, they planted roots. The martial arts blossomed (Fa) in new lands, passed down secretly through generations to preserve the culture, health, and self-defense of our people.
Hoi Fa Siu Lum honors this journey. We do not just teach punches and kicks. We cultivate the indomitable spirit of the Shaolin (Siu Lum) refugees. We train our students to be vast and adaptable like the ocean, resilient like the winter blossom, and deeply rooted in authentic tradition.
